Intent
- Confident to speak with good intonation and pronunciation.

Implementation
- French is taught in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.
- There is a two-year cycle for Key Stage 1, then a four-year cycle of Key Stage 2.
- Long term planning that is carefully tailored to the curriculum drivers whilst completing the National Curriculum Programme of study.
- Kapow scheme of learning has been adopted for Key stage 1 and Key Stage 2 languages.
- Key Stage 1 languages focus on learning French through songs.
- Specific vocabulary teaching within lessons.
- Specific French phonics teaching within lessons.
- Teaching of conjugation of key verbs to accurately express person, tense and intent.
- Alternative methods of communication are taught within school e.g. Makaton and Sign Language
Knowledge and Understanding:
The children’s understanding and knowledge of languages will be broadened through the teaching of the following key concepts.
- Describing ourselves.
- Articulating our interests and hobbies.
- Describing our family.
- Geographical and cultural understanding.
