    Computing

    Intent:

    • At our school we intend that children should master Computing to such an extent that they can go on to have careers within Computing and make use of Computing effectively in their everyday lives, without being completely reliant on technology.
    • Our children will be taught to use technology responsibly and carefully, being mindful of how their behaviour, words and actions can affect others. Our children will be taught Computing in a way that ensures progression of skills and follows a sequence to build on previous learning.
    • Our children will gain experience and skills of a wide range of technology in a way that will enhance their learning opportunities, enabling them to use technology across a range of subjects to be creative and solve problems, ensuring they make progress

    Implementation:

    • Planning is differentiated in every class by year group and children are given the opportunity to transfer their maths and English skills through cross-curricular links.
    • Our scheme of work is adapted from the ‘Kapow’ Curriculum and covers all aspects of the National Curriculum. This scheme was chosen as it has been authored by primary computing specialists using free readily available software.
    • Children are provided with opportunities to use laptops during lessons which aid in the acquisition of skills and knowledge, and to develop knowledge and skills of digital systems and their applications.
    • Teaching and learning should facilitate progression across all key stages within the strands of digital literacy, information technology and computer science. Children will have the opportunity to explore and respond to key issues such as digital communication, cyber-bullying, online safety, security, plagiarism and social media.
    • Specific vocabulary is set out and planned for the children, to develop a varied and extensive vocabulary by the end of KS2.

    Knowledge and Understanding:

The children’s understanding and knowledge of computing will be broadened through the teaching of the following key concepts.

    • Online safety
    • Computing systems and networks
    • Programming
    • Creating media
    • Data handling

Based on the national curriculum guidance of computer science, information technology and digital literacy which is woven through our key concepts. The children will be learning the disciplinary and substantive knowledge.

    Impact:

    • A rich and extensive vocabulary, built upon over time.
    • Children will be confident users of technology, be digitally literate and be able use technology in a variety of ways.
    • Clear progression of skills and learning throughout EYFS, KS1 & KS2.
    • Confident and resilient learners
